Industry Spotlight - Shane O'Connor

Updated: Jan 6

We're recognizing the individuals that are actively supporting commercial/industrial refrigeration. The following is a brief look into Shane O'Connor background and what advice he has to share with others.

"How did you get introduced to industrial refrigeration?"

Like many others in my generation, I went to college because everyone told me that was the best decision for me. After completing a year and half studying mechanical and steam engineering, I decided going into the workforce was the better decision for me. My uncle owned an industrial refrigeration company and offered me an opportunity to go to work. The rest is history.

"What part of the job makes you want to stay in this industry?"

As a business owner, my goals and motivations have shifted slightly from when I was an employee. What motivated me before was being capable of learning and performing all tasks and work related to industrial refrigeration to build my reputation as a the most capable. My motivation now to stay in the industry is being able to provide an ideal work environment for people looking for opportunities to succeed in their career in this industry while also providing unparalleled service and product to clients.

"What recent industry related challenge have you conquered and are proud to have prevail over?"

We recently took over all Refrigeration PM work for a large food manufacturer. We have been able to reduce the quantity of service calls from 10+ a month to maybe 1 a week by providing honest and thorough PM ITMs.

"What is your favorite job task that you enjoy in this field?"

Troubleshooting is by far my favorite task. Being able to identify a problem, suggest the solution, and implement that solution to make a customer happy and relieved that their equipment is once again reliable.

"If you could give your younger self advice when you first started, what advice would that be?"

Keep doing what you're doing. Set high goals and do what it takes to achieve them. When in doubt, ask questions. Don't be afraid to grow your network and use all your resources.

"What professional accomplishment do you aspire within the next three years?"

In the next three years I hope to expand our Field Services Team to help serve more of our client base that is in need of the honest and thorough service that we provide.

Thank you, Shane, for your continued support to keep this industry cool & safe.
